Digital stories

Digital storytelling was the icing on the cake. I love to take pictures and so when the opportunity came to use these pictures to tell a story, a whole new world opened up to me. Children of all ages love to take pictures and to have their pictures taken. Without a doubt this technology along with the ebook are perhaps the two most exciting for the development of creativity and a love for reading in children.
On Friday, we began by brainstorming ideas and finally we decided on the best idea from a group member. Subsequently, we took some pictures to match this idea and created a storyboard to begin our project. The actual use of Photo Story 3 to make the pictures come alive was exhilarating. I could only imagine what would happen in a classroom where students were allowed to create their own digital story. Not only would the competent reader be excited to read such an interactive book but the struggling reader would be highly motivated to read a book that was born out of his/her ideas.

I really enjoyed those sessions in ICT re eBooks, Digitalstorytelling, blogs and wikis. I really believe that they are beneficial in our classrooms today and I dare to dream and visualize their presence in our nation's schools in my lifetime.

  2. I too feel that these were great sessions it actually made me feel that technology was not so far out of my reach. Technology is do-able.
I tried to put together a digital story before and was so stressed I never finished when Mrs. Wood-Jackson showed us, I had that "Aha!" moment along with a "steups" moment relaising how easy it was, I am now going to surely try doing a lesson, I am positive my children will love it.

  3. Kathine,
You could not have said it better "Digital photo storytelin was the icing on the cake."

I was amazed by the simplicty of the task of creating. I felt a great measure of excitement while actually creating the story in class. I thought to myself, if I'm feeling this way, imagine what our students may experince if this media is integrated in their classroom life.

I beleive the stories can serve as a medium of motivating our students to WANT TO READ!

I am very exicted about it and I cant wait to try this out with my students.

  4. I think that the digital story telling really was very interesting as students at different levels can interface with this technologt to produce his/her own photo story. It can also allow teachers to scaffold students' learning as each student can be encouraged to produce his/her own masterpiece. E-books also have so much potential for use in the literacy classroom as this could be used to model fluency and assist in vocabulary development and comprehension skills.
