Jim and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they
were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there. Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out.

When the medical director became aware of Edna's heroic act, he immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital as he now considered her to be mentally stable. When he went to tell Edna the news he said, "Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of another patient. I have concluded that your act displays sound mindness. The bad news is, Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself with his bathrobe belt in the bathroom. I am so sorry, but he's dead."
Edna replied "He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry."

We do need to laugh. There are so many stressful situations to deal with each day. If we do not find time to laugh at some of them we could really go crazy. Sometimes we even need to laugh at ouselves.
ReplyDeleteLaughter is the best medicine. That's the beauty of emails I received that joke more than once and have enjoyed reading it every single time.
ReplyDeleteHere a task, even though, T&T may not be equipped with computers and wireless access in classrooms we as teachers, can create a homework blog. Have kids write about their most humorous summer experience. I am sure many kids have computers and internet access at home. If they don't then let them use paper and pencil and you can let them use a word processor (if yours you watch them closely but computers can take licks) and type their work at school and put it on the blog(cut and paste). Then you can print or use over head and let them read each other writing.
Hi Jason
ReplyDeleteYou are right, laughing at ourselves at the height of anxiety is certainly number one in keeping one's sanity. Perhaps I should have something to remind me to laugh in every classroom I enter.
Hi Cheryl
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of using blogging on the funniest summer activities. I am definitely going to use it in the new term. I think we could ask them to blog once a week on one thing they learnt during each week as well as the funniest thing that happened.
